Nutcracker Performance, Ticket, Audition, & Rehearsal Information

Background
“The Nutcracker,” sponsored by Julie Dance, is a professional production with the Donetsk Ballet (Ukraine) and ballet students from Miss Patti's School of Dance. Proceeds benefit organizations supporting research, care, and treatment of pediatric cancer.

Auditions and Rehearsals

Auditions for children's roles will be held at our dance school on Saturday, September 25. Only those registered in a ballet class may come to the audition. (7-year-old classes and above - see audition schedule below.) Dance attire: black leotard, pink tights, ballet slippers (pointe shoes for those in advanced pointe classes). Audition fee is $7, payable at the door. Although parts cannot be guaranteed, every effort will be made to include every child. There will be a 15-minute orientation for parents at the start of each audition period.

Audition Schedule
Please arrive 15 minutes before scheduled audition time.

1:00 pm. 7-year olds
2:00 p.m. Ages 8, 9, & 10 (Children registered in an 8-, 9- or 10-year-old class)
*4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m

Ages 11 and above (including 10-year-olds registered in an 11-year-old ballet class)

* As roles are determined, students may be excused prior to 6:30 p.m.

REHEARSALS ARE MANDATORY. PLEASE DO NOT AUDITION UNLESS YOU CAN ATTEND EVERY REHEARSAL. ANYONE MISSING A REHEARSAL WILL BE GIVEN A LESSER ROLE OR REPLACED.

Dancers will be required to attend at least one rehearsal a week. Weekly rehearsals will be held on Saturdays at noon (or 1 p.m.) beginning Saturday, October 2, and continuing each Saturday through December 4, excluding November 13 (part of NJ Teacher Convention Week) and November 27 (Thanksgiving weekend). Some rehearsals for the older students' dances may also be held on Sundays. There will be no rehearsals on Thanksgiving weekend. Where necessary, additional rehearsals for certain roles will be scheduled.

Depending on the role, weekly rehearsal times will vary. Each role is given a time slot between noon and 6 p.m. Most rehearsal times will be 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Rehearsals for those selected for the role of petite party children begin on Saturday, October 16. On Sunday, December 5, there will be a stage rehearsal at Paramus Catholic High School. There will be a dress rehearsal prior to the Friday evening, December 10, performance. More detailed information on rehearsals, and information on certain other requirements -- including participation and rehearsal fee, costume rental fee, and ticket sale requirements -- will be given at the audition.
